An Orphan's Dream

Making the world a better place through design is really what it's all about.

An Orphan’s Dream is a non-profit organization dedicated to building an orphanage in Gachoka, Kenya, for children who have lost their parents to AIDS.

While donations are at the core of the site, our experience designers realized that a nuanced understanding of where eBusiness and "eCharity" do and don't overlap was central to our success. This was an opportunity to further understand how our eBusiness skill-set could be adapted to the world of charity, and to augment our UX toolkit with the heuristics of the not-for-profit sector.

Our solution is a site that builds a connection between those in need and those who can help. We carefully selected from the best of social networking, GIS, and CRM, and used these to allow visitors to experience a sense of context, proximity, investment and immediacy.

While the Orphanage's core need is funds, the site gives equal real-estate to all of the ways a visitor can help: by spreading the word, lending a hand, and then by donating. These calls to action reflect our starting premise, that first comes engagement. Support follows from there.
